Author Guidelines

SEAJSM Manuscript preparation requirements for the Southeast Asian Journal of Service Management (SEAJSM).

Before submitting, read the Focus and Scope to confirm that your manuscript fits the journal. Manuscripts must be written in English, must be original and unpublished, and must not be under consideration elsewhere. All submissions are screened with Turnitin and undergo double-anonymous peer review by at least two reviewers.

Use the journal’s official template when preparing your manuscript (button available on the journal’s homepage sidebar). The template mirrors the sections below, including the Declarations block.

Manuscript Structure and Required Content

Title

The title must be informative and concise (ideally 12–20 words), clearly reflecting the key contribution of the study. Avoid place-name localism: the title should not begin with or be limited to a single geographic location (e.g., “A Study in Surabaya”) unless the location is central to the research contribution.

Abstract

A single paragraph of approximately 150–250 words, structured as follows: Background (brief context and rationale), Objective (purpose of the study), Method (design, sample, analysis), Results (key findings), and Conclusion (main conclusion and implications). The abstract must not contain citations and must stand on its own.

Keywords

Provide 3–6 keywords that reflect the core concepts of your study. Use standard terminology relevant to service management to maximize searchability.

Introduction

The Introduction must contain all of the following:

1. A state-of-the-art overview of recent research on the topic, showing command of the current literature;
2. An explicit gap statement or novelty justification, explaining what is missing in the literature and why your study matters;
3. The research objectives (or research questions/hypotheses) of the study.

Method

Describe the research design, sample and/or participants, instruments, and data analysis procedures in sufficient detail to allow replication. Specify the population, sampling technique, sample size, measurement scales (with sources), validity and reliability procedures, and the statistical or qualitative analysis approach used.

Results and Discussion

Report the key findings clearly and systematically (tables/figures should be referenced in the text). Interpret the findings in depth, and include an explicit comparison of your findings with prior studies — state where findings agree or contradict previous research and explain why. Discuss theoretical and practical implications.

Conclusion

The Conclusion must answer the stated objectives, summarize the main findings, and state the theoretical and/or managerial implications. It should not introduce new data, new citations, or new discussion.

Declarations (required in every manuscript)

Every manuscript must include the following declarations, typically in a separate section before the References:

• AI use statement: disclosure of any use of generative AI tools in the manuscript (tool, version, and purpose), in accordance with the Artificial Intelligence Policy;
• Author contribution statement: using CRediT (Contributor Roles Taxonomy) or equivalent;
• Funding statement: declaration of all funding sources, or a statement that the research received no external funding;
• Conflict of interest statement: declaration of any financial or personal conflicts of interest;
• Ethics approval statement: for research involving human participants or animals, the ethics committee name and approval number with year; for low-risk survey research, a standard self-statement of ethical compliance;
• Data availability statement: as required by the Data Availability and Reproducibility Policy.

References

• Minimum of 15 references;
• More than 80% primary sources (journal articles, conference proceedings, primary-data books);
• More than 80% published within the last 10 years;
• Citation style: APA (7th edition); use a reference manager (Mendeley or Zotero) to format references consistently.

Submission Procedure

1. Prepare your manuscript using the template and include all required sections and declarations.
2. Submit through the journal’s online submission system (OJS). You may begin with the title, abstract, and metadata, then upload the full text.
3. Ensure all files are in .docx or .doc format for review; the final accepted version will be typeset into the journal’s PDF layout.
4. Add all authors and their affiliations (institution, city, country) in the metadata form; designate the corresponding author and provide a valid institutional email address.
5. After submission, the editor will confirm receipt and the manuscript will enter desk screening and peer review (see the Peer Review Policy).

Publishing Charges

SEAJSM does not charge any fees: submission, processing, and publication are free of charge (see the Article Processing Charge (APC) page).
