Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

SEAJSM Policy on the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in scholarly publishing, applicable to authors, editors, and reviewers of the Southeast Asian Journal of Service Management (SEAJSM).

1. Policy for Authors

  • Disclosure: Authors must disclose any use of generative AI tools in preparing a manuscript (tool name, version, and purpose) in the AI use statement within the manuscript’s Declarations, and in the submission metadata where applicable.
  • AI cannot be an author: Generative AI tools and their outputs do not qualify for authorship. Authorship is reserved for individuals who have made substantive intellectual contributions to the work, per the ICMJE authorship criteria.
  • Responsibility: Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of all AI-assisted content. AI-generated text, data, or analyses must be carefully verified, and any factual errors remain the authors’ responsibility.
  • Breach handling: Undisclosed use of AI tools in a manuscript constitutes a breach of publication ethics and will be handled in accordance with COPE guidelines, which may include rejection, correction, or retraction.

2. Policy for Editors

  • Editors may use AI only as a limited aid (e.g., language or readability screening, administrative tasks).
  • Editorial judgment and decisions must never be delegated to AI. All editorial decisions are made by qualified human editors.
  • Manuscript confidentiality must be preserved: editors must not upload submissions or any part of manuscripts into public AI tools.

3. Policy for Reviewers

  • Reviewers are prohibited from using AI tools to analyze or assess manuscripts, to draft review reports, or to generate any part of a review.
  • Reviewers must not upload any part of a manuscript into AI tools, including public or cloud-based generative AI services, due to confidentiality and data-protection obligations.
  • Reviews must reflect the reviewer’s own independent scholarly evaluation of the manuscript.

4. Enforcement and Alignment

This policy aligns with international best practices on AI in scholarly publishing (see, for example, the COPE position statements and the research integrity guidance of major publishers) and with the requirements of the Indonesian journal accreditation framework (Kepdirjen 374/DST/D.D1/HM.01.01/2026).
